Background Note: The Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is one of several hereditary organizations which require as a qualification for membership lineal descent from ancestors resident in the United States no later than the American Revolution. The society was founded to perpetuate the memory of those who fought in the Revolution, to encourage research into the period, and to develop and foster institutions of patriotism. The Poweshiek Chapter, founded in 1916, appears to have lasted only two years, although documentation of dissolution is not included in the collection.
