Background Note: Anson Moxley was born on July 20, 1849 in Schoharie County, New York. He married Lydia Dart in 1871, and they moved to Grinnell in November. The Moxleys purchased land in Hickory Grove, Jasper County, and farmed from 1872 to 1907 when they moved into town. Anson Moxley died on February 26, 1941. James Sanders, the author of the two articles in the collection, is the Moxleys’ great-grandson.
