Background Note: The Grin City Collective had its origins in the Artist Residency program initiated under the auspices if the Grinnell Area Arts Council in 2006. It operated independently on the Lacina farm north of Grinnell until 2011 when Molly Rideout arrived to work at the Arts Council. The name ”Grin City Collective” was filed as a fictitious name with the Secretary of State in 2012. It was decided to end the residency in 2016, at which time Molly incorporated Grin City Collective. In October 2016, the Collective became a separate and independent entity and initiated a micro-grant program to fund local artists in the creation of public art and community-based projects. Nate Logsdon became the new director in Fall 2017. Grin City Collective ceased operations at the end of 2018.

The collection consists primarily of news articles, including biographical material for residents of the program as well as publicity for projects including the annual Rurally Good Festival.
