Background Note: The club was organized in Grinnell at the home of Emma Beebe in October of 1907. The object of the club, according to the 1957 history, was to be the social and intellectual improvement of its member. The particular area of interest was travel, as the name Levart is travel spelled backwards. The club programs included discussions of school facilities, war efforts, opera, house furnishings, women’s suffrage and local charities. The club continues to meet twice a month.
