Background Note: The Grinnell chapter of the National Jaycees was established on November 7, 1949 with Earl Geiger as the first president. The objectives of the group are to promoting civic service through the organized efforts of the young men of the community, to provide training in leadership, and to offer recreation and social benefits. The organization was involved in a variety of projects including fire prevention, Lake Nyanza beautification, a tornado warning system for the city, and the Norton Fund, which furnished supplies and equipment for Robert Norton’s hospital in Viet Nam.

The materials in the collection date were left behind when the organization moved from the 2nd floor of the Citizen’s Bank Building and date from the period 1962 to 1980. Publicity on the initial organization of the group is included in the Series #1, Folder #12 (Anniversaries).
