Drake Library Archive Digital File Name: Grinnell Stories/2018-11-16 When Radium Came to Grinnell
Summary: During its rise in popularity, radium arrived in Grinnell in 1920 and was used in treatments by local physicians. While the Grinnell Community Hospital stopped using radium by 1930, the practice continued at St. Francis Hospital into the 1930s. Products associated with radium, like radium silk, also boomed at the time, including watches one could buy in Grinnell as early as 1918.
