Background Note: In 2015, Grinnell College Professor Emeritus of History Dan Kaiser began composing blog posts based on the local history of Grinnell. He called the blog “Grinnell Stories” and based his research on primary source material from Grinnell College Special Collections, the Drake Community Library archive, and microfilm of the Grinnell Herald-Register. Through his research he uncovered many forgotten stories and hidden figures of Grinnell. His blog posts about the Renfrow family were the basis for his book Grinnell Stories: African-Americans of Early Grinnell, published by the Grinnell Historical Society in 2020. The Grinnell Stories blog is available for viewing online at https://grinnellstories.blogspot.com/
