Background Note: James Richard (Dick) Sanders (4/16/1916 – 4/16/2001) was born in the Montezuma area and grew up in Grinnell. After service in WWII, he returned to Grinnell where he worked for Weitz Construction. He subsequently formed his own construction company and was responsible for the construction of several homes in Grinnell and Brooklyn. In later years, he completed many remodeling projects in older Grinnell homes. He was married to Rachel Sanders in 1941, and the couple had two children, Jean and James.

The collection consists primarily of photographs of homes he built and correspondence relating to the compilation of the
collection.
