Summary: Dr. Elbert Warren Clark, born in 1842, practiced medicine in Grinnell until his death in 1910 while devoting time to local government through service on bodies ranging from the Grinnell City Council to the Iowa Senate. After Dr. Clark’s death, Chicago architect Walter Burley was to build a fountain in Central Park devoted to Dr. Clarke, but the construction phase was lengthy, and in 1931 the fountain was moved to the middle of the park. And, in 1954, in a state of disrepair, the monument was removed without a trace.
