Summary: The history of Grinnell’s Lake Nyanza, which is lesser known compared to Arbor Lake. It was popular in the late 19th century as a spot to fish, paddle in a boat, ice skate, birdwatch and just a place to spend time and hold local events and competitions. Over time, however, the lake fell into disrepair and received less attention from the community (despite a brief renewed effort in the 50s and 60s to reinvigorate the space with a new dock), especially due to environmental problems and noise from passing trains.
