Gwendolyn Manatt Postcard Collection
Information from a card included with the collection: Following is info. typed up 4/8/97 pertaining to a large collection of postcards bought at Gwendolyn Ryan's home auction at 1212 6th Ave about 1981 or 82. Gwendolyn Manatt is the cute little girl pictured here, her mother Fan is the lady sitting on the donkey, she appears in several of the cards along with relatives and friends all from the Carnsforth Victor & Guernsey area. Gwendolyn taught school in the Stanwood, IA. area where some of these cards are from, she was married and divorced in the 20's & married "Curly" Ryan & too (sic) them were born 2 children Willis & Sharon. Sharon wan in my class in Brooklyn, & graduated with me in 1956. The cards showing flood scenes & tornado damage are from the Chelsea area I believe. I knew Gwendolyn as an elderly woman and talked with her at the Marshalltown Soldier's home about 1988 she identified many of the people in these cards, but I didn't follow up on it and have forgotten where it goes. She died shortly thereafter. dAlso included were many cards from the town of Brooklyn, a interesting collection; Ivan Sheets
