Background Note: The Grinnell Taxpayers Association held its organizational meeting on February 22, 1975 with the purpose of obtaining improvements in public facilities and services in the Greater Grinnell Community. At its meeting on February 28, the Board of Directors proposed as its first priority a focus on the building situation in the Grinnell-Newburg School District with secondary emphasis on the general educational program as it related to the building program. The group was active in promoting approval of bond issues and locating candidates for the School Board, who supported their program.

The association filed papers of dissolution with the Secretary of State in December 1976. The decision to dissolve was made in light of legislation restricting the use of funds by non-profit corporations and because the bond issue to build the middle school had been approved. The organization continued to support candidates and work for the School Board reapportionment plan in 1977.
