Summary: Born in Quincy, Florida, Campbell became the first Rosenwald scholar to attend Grinnell College. He enrolled in 1918 and graduated, with a good academic record in 1920. Afterwards, he attended graduate study in history at Harvard University. He ended up leaving Harvard before finishing his degree of Doctor of Philosophy. He dreamt about building a preparatory school for Black youth yet passed away in June 1975 before achieving this goal.
