(Tommy) Tomasek, the son of Frank W. and Ella Jones Tomasek and Ethel Evans Tomasek, daughter of William and Jennie Powell Tomasek, were born and spent their early years in Williamsburg. Iowa, attending school together. Following his graduation from high school, Tommy attended the University of Iowa where he was active in musical productions and from which he graduated in 1929. Following his graduation from the University of Iowa Law School, he came to Grinnell and opened a law practice with Charles Vogel.

Ethel attended both Coe College and the University of Iowa, receiving a degree in Music, and she subsequently taught in the public schools before her marriage to Tommy in 1935. The couple had two children, John D. and Miriam (Freiter).

Both Tommy and Ethel were active in the Congregational Church and in various community organizations, and Tommy served as the governor of the Iowa/Nebraska District of Kiwanis International in 1939-1940. He was a delegate to the 1956 Republican Convention in San Francisco. He was also involved in the planning of the Mayflower Home. Ethel was of member of the Magoun Club, Pi Rho Lambda, and P.E.O., and the collection contains documentation of the many programs she developed for club groups over the years.
