Summary: Kaiser recalls the 1985 Scholars’ Convocation at Grinnell College where he introduced the Polish-American poet, prose writer, and Nobel Laureate Czeslaw Milosz. In the talk, Milosz read from and commented upon a book by another poet, Zbigniew Herbert. Milosz then references Grinnell in his 1985 poem “A Portrait With a Cat” and describes a painting by Marjorie Connor Murphy that presumably hung in Grinnell House during Milosz’s stay.
