Background Note: The Westfield Ladies Aid Society was organized on June 9, 1897 by 18 women in the Westfield community with the purpose of making quilts for needy families and selling some of them in order to make donations to charitable organizations. Meetings were held on the 2nd Thursday of the month with a yearly membership fee of 25 cents. Over the years, the original intention of providing plain refreshments grew into potluck suppers in which the members’ families were included.

The Ladies Aid Society disbanded in June 1997, having reached its 100th anniversary. A list of its donations to charitable organizations is included in Folder #1.
