Background Note: On March 10, 1978 thirty retired teachers met for the purpose of organizing a Poweshiek County unit of the Retired Teacher’s Association. The purposes of the association were to promote the interests of retired teachers, support and promote legislation on behalf of the social and well-being of retired teachers, provide fellowship, and maintain affiliation with NRTA. In March 1993, the organization decided to include all retired school personnel and public librarians. The name was changed to the Poweshiek Retired School Personnel to reflect the change.
