Background Note:
The Hickory Grove School District (Jasper County) became the Newburg Consolidated School District in 1920.
Following the fire which destroyed the high school building in 1925, a $40,000 fire-proof building was completed in 1926. In 1958 the district became part of the Grinnell Community School District, and high school students attended and graduated from Grinnell High School. In 1975, all sixth-graders in the Grinnell-Newburg School District attended Newburg School.
The collection consists of issues of the Newburg Tattler (1931 – 1932) and Newburg Highlight (1934-35, 1938, 1948, 1955-58), three student journals in subsequent years (1959, 1960, 1975), and the graduation program of the class of 1958, the last graduating class.
Also included is a photocopied booklet with yearbook photographs of the Class of 1921 – Class of 1958.
