Background Note: In 2005 Governor Tom Vilsack initiated the Iowa Great Places Program, which attracted nearly 70 applications from Iowa cities, including Grinnell, The committee organized to prepare Grinnell’s proposal, which was chaired by Lesley Wright, presented its program and tour to the state advisory board on September 29 but was not among the three cities designated.
In 2006 Grinnell again submitted an application and underwent a review by the committee on October 23 but was not successful . Following resubmission in 2014, the city was designated as one of five newly chosen Iowa Great Places. A portion of the grant was planned for the intersection of 4th Ave. and Hwy 146, with the remainder to be used in the summer of 2016 in Central Park.
The collection consists of correspondence, preparatory notes, proposed presentations, and CDs/DVDs.
