Correspondence of the committee with alumni donors for the construction of ARH. Most corresondence was of a very routine nature and was discarded. Letters preserved are a selection to indicate exampoes of typical letters, those reflecting problmes fund-fraisers encountered, letters indicating the status of the campaign at a given time or progress on the construction, letters that indicate how the und-raising campaign wa organized. Most are statistical summaries. A 1930 memorandum from Phelps to Trevor Arnett of the General Education Board outlines the original agreement between the College and the Board and gives details of the college's financial situation over the ten years. Includes explanation of the purpose and activities of Grinnell College foundation.
The Hungate report on Grinnell College was a study of the funds, assets, and current deficits of the college. Hungate was Assistant to the President of the General Education Board, Trevor Arnett, and was later Auditor at Teachers College, Columbia University. He reorganized Grinnell's financial and accounting procedure in 1925.
Correspondence, financial reports and other reports relating to Grinnell's endowment campaign, financial condition, budgets. Mush of the correspondence is between Treasurer Phelps and officers of the General Education Board in New York.
The bulk of the correspondence is between Phelps and Hungate.
