Selden Lincoln Whitcomb papers 1883-1906

Seldon Whitcomb spent most of his life in Grinnell, IA.  He was born here, graduated from Iowa College in 1887, and returned to teach English from 1895-1905.  In this collection are two personal journals, a poetry manuscript, and a notebook of nature observations with a few specimens pressed between the pages.

Jesse Macy Papers 1876-1919

The collection contains correspondence between Macy and several people from the 1870s to 1919, including a letter from Woodrow Wilson thanking Macy for a gift and for his congratulations on the 1910 New Jersey gubernatorial election. There are a number of miscellaneous family documents, Macy’s diary from 1864-65 in Savannah, Georgia, and sixty letters of tribute at the time of Macy’s death.

Charles H. Foster papers 1939-1985

Consists of material written by, about, and for Charles H. Foster.  Included are copies of lectures given by Foster, book reviews written by and about him, and correspondence with colleagues and friends.  This collection contains copies of correspondence written by Foster to Robert Frost and also letters received by Foster from MacKinlay Kantor, Paul Engle, Perry Miller, Curt Harnack, and Joseph F. Wall.  Additionally, this collection includes unpublished manuscripts (one incomplete) by Foster.  Also included are two signed Perry Miller books that were given to Foster from Miller.

Curtis Bradford Transcriptions of W. B. Yeats unpublished prose 1954-1960

In 1954 and again in 1960, Curtis Bradford was able to transcribe previously unpublished manuscripts by W. B. Yeats that remained in the home of Yeats' widow, George. This collection contains the transcriptions Bradford made from Yeats' handwritten and typescript manuscripts. Bradford published a recollection of his work with the manuscripts in the  Sewanee Review 77 (1969) 385-404.

A description of this manuscript collection was published by James Lovic Allen and M. M. Lberman, "Transcriptions of Yeats's Unpublished prose in the Bradford papers at Grinnell College." Serif: Quarterly of Kent State University Libraries, 10.1 (1973): 13-27.
