Background Note: The Grinnell Area Arts Council was organized on November 8, 1978 for the purpose of promoting arts in the Grinnell area. Members of the first Board were drawn from various interested groups and professions.
Among the programs initiated by the Council have been: Artists in the Schools; Summer Arts Program; Summer Arts Festival; Arts calendar in the Herald Register; Sponsorship of concerts & touring groups.
In 2009 the Arts Council took possession of the former Stewart Library building with the intention of creating an Arts Center, which would include classroom and exhibit space.
