Background Note: The church was organized in Grinnell in 1858. The first building was located “across the road from the J. W. Norris garage”. In 1890, a brick church building was built on the NE corner of Park Street and Fourth Avenue. In 1952, a stone church building was erected at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East Street. The old building was sold to Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church “which bought not only the building, but all equipment in it from hymnals to the kitchen furniture” (Grinnell Herald-Register, March 26, 1953).

In 2020, the building First Baptist Church building was gifted to Prairie Lakes Church.
