WWII Scrapbook

Background Note: This scrapbook is a collection of the time Private Edward Watkins spent in World War II between 1941 and 1942. It largely consists of letters and postcards from him addressed to Miss Anna Belt. Other items within include (but are not limited to) relevant newspaper clippings, badges, photographs from his station at Fort Eustis, VA, and mementos like the program from the last show they went to together.

Private Watkins was born in Wellington, Kansas in 1918 and moved to Iowa after WWII. He farmed for ten years near Newburg and moved to Sheridan township in 1966. He was employed for a time at Lennox Industries in Marshalltown.

Container List: The physical scrapbook is preserved in a collection box in its entirety. It is in delicate condition due to the use of tape and other adhesives used in the scrapbooking process.

Digital Archives Note: There are two copies of the digitized scrapbook stored internally in Digital Archives. The first titled “page by page” just consists of each of the 36 pages in full, meant to mimic the experience of just flipping through the book. The other, titled “detail version,” includes the numbered pages with close-up images of each detailed item with their contents.
