Background Note: The Billy Robinson Collection documents the career of early Iowa aviator, Billy Robinson. The materials were originally gathered together by Robert Smith of Grinnell, who has had a long-time interest in Robinson and his contributions to airplane design. Smith was a leading advocate of naming Grinnell’s airport in honor of Robinson and served on the Billy Robinson Memorial Committee in 1987. The committee planned the airport dedication and was instrumental in creating the display in the terminal building. The work of the committee is documented in the collection.
