Drake Library Archive Digital File Name: Newburg Stories 2024-08-08 "Why not call it Newburg?'

Summary:

The story of how Newburg got it's name, based on an elusive civics history question reflected in the Newburg book. Explores various conversations with the relatives of Newburg's founders and passed down stories, and who was entitled to the naming rights and how they may have come to it. Disproving the textbook's answer that it was a combination of two founders' last names (John Newcomer and Mr. Hamburg -- the latter whom there is no memory of), the author argues the name came from Mr. Gus Whitney, who did help found the town; who hailed originally from Newburg(h), Maine.
