Summary: Data from the record-breaking extreme cold weather that hit the town in the winter of 1936, as well as the record-breaking heatwave in the summer of that same year. Grinnellians who suffered through these seasons told stories about braving bitter winds, frozen pipes, roads piled many feet high with snow, and a coal shortage in the winter. In the summer, problems included many victims of heatstroke, a drought, crops dying, and ruined soil in the summer.
