Leonard Fletcher L.F. Parker span style=color: rgb(62, 19, 14); font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; was a professor of Greek and Latin at Iowa College from 1860-70 and professor of history from 1888-98. In Grinnell, he was involved with the public schools and the Underground Railroad. /span

Asa Turner established the first Congregational Church west of the Mississippi and became its pastor. Turner beckoned the Iowa Band to join him in what is now Grinnell Iowa in 1842.
