Chronicles an American soldier's one-year tour in Vietnam from April 1969 - April 1970, providing a detailed account of military strategy, officer training, active combat, and life in and outside of the field. The first letter in the collection was written before the tour began, while Stratz was attending Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Georgia.
