Sloan Committee.  Technology Studies & Problem Solving Program

In the fall of 1982 Grinnell College was one of 10 academic institutions to receive a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to establish a program integrating problem solving and technological literacy throughout the liberal arts curriculum. The program consisted of three levels of course work in problem solving, modeling, and technology in any of the academic departments. The program also included an off-campus student/faculty internship program in conjunction with the Washington Center for Learning Alternatives as well as other seminars and internship programs in the summer and during the school year. The chairs of the Sloan Committee have been Elliot Uhlenhopp, Charles Jepsen, and Tom Moore. Technology Studies and Problem Solving continues, with Sloan Foundation support, as a general education quantitate studies program in technology studies . See course catalogs for details.
