Reports to General Education Board

Most are statistical summaries. A 1930 memorandum from Phelps to Trevor Arnett of the General Education Board outlines the original agreement between the College and the Board and gives details of the college's financial situation over the ten years. Includes explanation of the purpose and activities of Grinnell College foundation.

Music Dept.

Report to Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, Feb. 1940. Report of special committee to review policies and personnel of the Department of Music. Murray Welch, Chair. Includes copies of correspondence between Welch and David Peck on Peck's position in the department.

Many letters are to Minora Trueblood. Chandler Bullock, Worcester, MA, re: Goodnow Estate donation ($1000); James Hill re: donations for Hill prize and meeting conditions of Carnegie gift.

Reports

Report on housing, 1936-1937; 10 year Report on Operation; Dean Gardner's plan, 1937-1938. Loose papers and correspondence were in the folder, and a report, "Statements covering Quadrangle and dormitory income and expense, 10-year period--1926-1936" (all statistics). Includes correspondence and short treasurer's reports dealing with dorm mortgages, foreclosures, refinancing. Those involved are Phelps, trustees (particularly Kirkpatrick), and insurance companies. 1937 Statistics about dorms and their occupancy, dorm income and expenses.

Correspondence

Correspondence of the committee with alumni donors for the construction of ARH. Most corresondence was of a very routine nature and was discarded. Letters preserved are a selection to indicate exampoes of typical letters, those reflecting problmes fund-fraisers encountered, letters indicating the status of the campaign at a given time or progress on the construction, letters that indicate how the und-raising campaign wa organized. Some of the corrrespondents include: Gershom Hill, Harry Hopkins; S. A. Merrill re: E. H. Taylor as an architect; H. W. Magoun; Jesse Macy; Anne Norris; Merta Matlack.
