Diaries

The 1861 diary begins on January 1, 1861 and ends Friday, October 18 of that year. There are some additional entries for cash accounts and bills. The 1862 diary begins on January 1, 1862 and the owner of the diary stops making entries on Monday, February 3. Another writer (Sammy’s brother William E.) begins with Tuesday, February 4 entry and ends the diary on February 9, the day Sammy died after a brief illness. A pertinent page (p. 620) from the History of Marion County, c. 1881, is included in the folder, with biographical information on the Wright family.

Consists of two diaries written by S. (Sammy) M. Wright of Knoxville, Iowa, during the Civil War. He and his brother William served in Company B, Third Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry.
