Grant Gale Office Papers

Papers were transferred to the college archives from two file drawers in Grant Gale's office in May 1995.  The contents of box 5 were donated by Mark Schneider in January 2002.

History Department

1 bound volume.  Prepared under the direction of Department Chair Daniel Kaiser.  The study was part of a departmental evaluation.

James T. Fudge, Professor of Music

2 boxes, donated by James Fudge, August 1999. This collection contains the office files of Dr. Fudge from 1966-1988. Included are letters of correspondence with other schools and directors, schedules, a few programs/fliers, and information about the music department and the singing groups. There is also one folder of miscellaneous off-campus programs and events related to James Fudge and his family. Box 1 contains the files from 1966 to 1985. Box 2 contains the remaining files up to 1988 and the miscellaneous folder.

1 box.  Miscellaneous faculty committee papers and reports, 1975-1984.  Includes reports on:  procedures related to appointments, reappointments, and tenure, 1976; ad hoc committee on faculty development and evaluation, course evaluations, summary, spring 1978; Health Professions Advisory Committee's guide for faculty advisors, 1979; evaluation of teaching, 1993.

Music Department

The Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society was founded at Northwestern University in 1918.  In 1929 Grinnell College became the thirteenth college to join the organization and was named the Nu Chapter.  Pi Kappa Lambda represents the field of music as a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (like Phi Beta Kappa).  Activities include an annual initiation service and a Biennial National Convention.  The Nu Chapter at Grinnell College was declared inactive in 1970 due to a lack of interest.
