Army units housed at Grinnell College were:
Program of Accelerated Studies (1942). A participant studied two semesters and a summer term, and could graduate in three years.
Officers Candidtae School
Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) (July, 1943): A program for younger men selected by the Army on the basis of tests at army camps.
Specialized Training Assignment Reclassification (STAR) (July 1943 - June 1944), a unit of ASTP: Army men came for 1 - 6 weeks of special training on college campuses, of which Grinnell was one of several, before being assigned to a campus for intense special courses in technical areas, languages, or medicine. The college was resonsible for academic and physical training; the army was responsible for drill, testing and assigning men to specialties and to other institutions for further training.
